"Srila Vyasadeva revealed these statements after perfect realization and therefore they are perfect, for liberated sages like Vyasadeva never commit errors in their rhetorical arrangements. Unless one accepts this fact, there is no use in trying to obtain help from the revealed scriptures." -- CC Adi-Lila Chapter 2 text 86 purport.
"If you concoct, 'I am more intelligent than my Guru,' 'I can make additions and alterations,' then you are finished." -- Srila Prabhupada lecture July 12, 1975 Philadelphia Pa.
"We cannot water down the philosophy to make it more palatable. Our books must remain as they are." -- Srila Prabhupada letter to Lilavati devi dasi March 31, 1977.
Jasomatinandan prabhu: " ... commonsense dictates that except for typographical mistakes such as "planet of the trees," no editions and subtractions should be done from 1972 edition."
The editorial cottage industry which Jayadvaita Swami invented and has expanded for the past three decades is based on smoke and mirrors, and has only served to creat havoc and distortion. This must stop.
But by registering the identical phrase as a domain name – without the hyphen – and then automatically redirecting traffic to a website (krishna.com) which features changed books, is Jayadvaita Swami trying to tell us that he actually prefers Srila Prabhupada’s original books?
Thanks to the diligent efforts of His Grace Dhira Govinda Prabhu, the Chairman of the ISKCON Office of Child Protection, we now have evidence that the current BBT, which is controlled by GBC supporters, are making changes motivated slowly by the desire to doctor Srila Prabhupada's books so that they fit in with whatever happens to be the prevailing view instituted in ISKCON by the GBC.
By Gadadhar dasa - "So I am approaching you for your help and participation in distribution of Srila Prabhupada's books which glorify Supreme Personality of Godhead Shri Krishna in best possible way and promote Vedic Culture and Philosophy. ... The example of honey bee is that it goes from flowers to flowers and collect little bit of pollen and thus build madhapudo. This process is called Madhukari."
"Many activist groups have used economic protests to change the negative behavior of
mega-corporations. Giant companies like Nike and McDonalds have been forced to change their ways because of grass-roots activists. In fact, there is a saying that you should 'vote with your dollars' if you want to make a change."
"... the Maharaj stated that he did not whimsically edited Bhagavad Gita. Rather, he sought the permission of the GBC. They voted for it and hence he went ahead with the second edition. ...The onus is now on all the GBCs who served in 1983 and who are still physically and spiritually alive to come out from their "hiding" and say why they voted for the second edition for the benefit all followers of Srila Prabhupad."
"If the policy of the BBT to make unnecessary changes violates the rule of arsa-prayoga, the principle by which we honor the acarya, how can the distribution of such revised editions enhance the reputation of the great acarya? It does not. Rather, it belittles and dishonors him, whether the BBT trustees understand this principle or not. Therefore, the revised books should not be printed. The next printing, and all future printings, should be again to the original way."
"In what should be the final analysis, the 1972 Bhagavad-gita As It Is was, and is, Srila Prabhupada's authorized final edition. Historical tradition, spiritual etiquette and common ethics demands that post-disappearance notes by commentators and adjustments by editors to an acarya’s published works be placed in an appendix or a separate tika, leaving the original, published, authorized and approved work unchanged."
"How can the followers of Srila Prabhupada be expected to trust in the literally hundreds of undocumented, highly dubious and unnecessary changes to the 1972 Bhagavad-Gita As It Is? Changing the books destroys the trust and faith of people in Srila Prabhupada's books, and is another factor which has only served to dramatically undermine Srila Prabhupada's Mission."
"So, when you change, then the authority is lost. Just like in our society, sometimes they do something nonsense and they say, 'Prabhupada said.' (laughter) They are doing that. We know that. It is deteriorated like that. Therefore Krsna said, sa kaleneha mahata yogo nastah kaunteya: 'And in due course of time, this yoga was lost. Therefore I am repeating the same thing, old philosophy to you.' So it requires like that." (750509rc.per Conversations)
"Besides denoting expurgation, bowdlerizing can also refer to any unauthorized editing, especially to alter the doctrine or philosophy expressed by a work. This usage certainly applies to Jayadvaita's Gita, in which he has altered the original meaning of many passages."
"More than 70% of the Bhagavad-gita translations and more than 70% of the purports have been changed. In many cases the meaning of the new text is substantially different from the meaning of the original text approved by Srila Prabhupada."
"Srila Prabhupada's literary legacy must be frozen in time so to speak, to preserve its integrity and meaning. Continuing changes over the upcoming decades and even centuries will only serve to incrementally denigrate the potency of his gift. The world wants and needs to hear Srila Prabhupada's transcendental voice as it is -- not the prissy sterility of an editorial cottage industry run amok."
